World-renowned poet, activist, educator and author Nikki Giovanni was at Books & Books signing her new release book “Hip Hop Speaks to Children†A Celebration of Poetry with a Beat. Over the past thirty years, Giovanni remains determined and committed to the fight for civil rights and equality by speaking the truth as she sees it.
Born in Knoxville, Tennessee and graduated at Fisk University in 1968. It was during that time Nikki Giovanni Published her first books of poetry “Black Feeling Black Talk.†Most recently Nikki Giovanni was call by Oprah Winfrey’s as one of the twenty-five “Living Legends.”
Many of Giovanni’s books have received top honors and awards: National Book Award, NAACP Image Awards, and Caldecott Honors. Her books also were in The Los Angeles and New York Times Bestseller list.
