Lorenzo Muniz, currently General Manager of the BankUnited Center on the campus of the University of Miami, was honored on October 13, 2011 by the City of Miami for his previous role as GM of the Global Spectrum-managed James L. Knight International Center and Miami Convention and Conference Center. Receiving the city’s “Certificate of Merit and Appre-ciation” from City of Miami Mayor Tomas P. Regalado and City Commissioner Michelle Spence Jones, Muniz was recognized for his exceptional service and dedication as an employee who revitalized the James L. Knight Center during his four-year tenure there. The James L. Knight had always operated at a loss. Muniz is the first and only GM to have ever generated a profit for the 29 year old facility. He accomplished this feat again this year before he moved on to the BankUnited Center.
“Lorenzo had the ability to turn the James L. Knight Center around and make it a very prosperous venue for the City of Miami,” said City Commissioner Spence Jones. “Any time he was called upon he would make himself available and was a great asset to our city.”
