Nikki Giovanni read from ‘Hip Hop Speaks to Children’

World-renowned poet, activist, educator and author Nikki Giovanni was at Books & Books signing her new release book “Hip Hop Speaks to Children” A Celebration of Poetry with a Beat. Over the past thirty years, Giovanni remains determined and committed to the fight for civil rights and equality by speaking the truth as she sees it.

Born in Knoxville, Tennessee and graduated at Fisk University in 1968. It was during that time Nikki Giovanni Published her first books of poetry “Black Feeling Black Talk.” Most recently Nikki Giovanni was call by Oprah Winfrey’s as one of the twenty-five “Living Legends.”

Many of Giovanni’s books have received top honors and awards: National Book Award, NAACP Image Awards, and Caldecott Honors. Her books also were in The Los Angeles and New York Times Bestseller list. In addition to received top honor for her books, she also received honorary degrees, name Woman of the Year by Mademoiselle Magazine, The Ladies Home Journal, and Ebony Magazine and she was the first recipient of the Rosa L. Parks Woman of Courage Award and many more…

Paulina Rubio created new foundation to help children living with neurologic disorders

Acclaimed Mexican actress, singer and six-time Billboard Latin Music Award winner, Paulina Rubio along with Fellow supporters including Indy 500 winner, Hélio Castroneves and President & Founder of The Lili Claire Foundation, Keith Resnick announcement during a Press conference held at the ONE Bal Harbour to the world the launching of her organization, Fundación Paulina Rubio, a foundation created to benefit children living with neurologic disorders and their families. The press conference was hosted by owners of ONE BAL Harbour Resort & Spa Jorge and Juan Arevalo.

Rubio introduced her project in partnership with The Lili Claire Foundation, known for its A-list supporters including Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry and Randy Jackson.

Fundación Paulina Rubio is a project inspired by children in anguish, as a result of homelessness, birth defects and lack of education among other pernicious plights that many face today. By directing funds through other pre-existing organizations, such as The Lili Claire Foundation, children will receive a unique and comprehensive blend of support services including medical and behavioral genetics clinics, psychosocial counseling, advocacy services, information libraries, community outreach, ultimately improving the lives of families and children living with neurogenetic disorders.

Paulina also announces that she will hold an upcoming benefit concert title Paulina & Friends in April 2010 at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, Florida. Paulina Rubio, her mother and Mexican actress Susana Dosamantes, along with VIP guests like Alex Pereira, Erika Koopman, James & Mindy Cassel, Jilian Sanz, Leonardo Davalos and Moses Zomana enjoyed a private lunch at the hotel’s restaurant after the Press conference.
